In Batangas, a 15 year old, third year student, gives importance to education. Madel Cuadra is a consistent honor student since she was in elementary. She graduated as the class valedictorian in her batch. She only walks in going to school without minding the length of her walk. Her mother worries for her safety that she might encounter along the way. Madel shares how she keeps her Php20 'baon' until the end of the week. She also shared how she survive the day with only the soy sauce as her viand and a cup of rice. Sometimes she has nothing to eat if they do no have enough budget in the house. The surprise for Madel was given at school. She received a full scholarship at the Olivarez College- Tagaytay. She was also given a bank account with a depositof Php20,000 from Rural Bank. Their family was also given a motorcycle. She was very thankful to all who helped her family. It is much of great help to Myrna Diones is a survivor of a salvage. She now have a family. But her husband died and she was left with a big responsibility. She frankly told the WKL staff that some mediamen only gets her interview but left her promises. Her other problem is that she do not have electricity for three years now. She fears of not having light in their house because she do not who might be the persons getting near their house. Myrna works as a housemaid and earns Php2,500 a month. WKL gave her appliances that filled her empty house. She was also given a 'negosyo' showcase of Apparel and footwear worth Php10, 000. Theirelectricity is also connected so that she would not fear anymore of the safety of her children. Myrna is very thankful and happy of the blessings and help she received.
